Experiencing different cultures and stepping into the unknown.
The opportunity, especially when you’re young, to take on challenges without being constrained by work is an invaluable asset.

Please tell us about your current role

I oversee the cutting-edge design section for custom-made tools. As our strength lies in fully customized solutions, each customer requires different tool shapes and cutting tools. By working closely with our sales representatives—who serve as the primary point of contact with customers—we refine specifications and design the optimal cutting edge geometry.

Why did you choose to join KAMIYA?

I graduated from a technical high school with a focus on mechanical engineering and had been considering a career in manufacturing since my entrance exam days. Rather than pursuing purely academic study, I wanted hands-on experience. I was particularly drawn to the phrases “craftsmanship” and “manufacturing possible only through people,” which were highlighted in the job posting, and decided to join the company.

You have work experience in Indonesia. What did you gain from that experience?

It was my first time going abroad. I couldn’t speak the language, and the scope of work was broader than in Japan, so I started in a completely unfamiliar environment. At first, I lived with the company president and only later transitioned to living on my own as I adapted. Gradually, I became accustomed to life there.

I worked locally for a total of three years. Prior to my assignment, I received training in the necessary technical skills and knowledge, and I was supported by colleagues and supervisors around me. However, working on-site made me realize that unless I took initiative, I could not contribute to customers. It was an environment where I strongly felt both the responsibility and the rewards of my work firsthand. Through this experience, I was able to fully develop my professional independence and engagement.

What kind of company is KAMIYA in you eyes

Before joining, I had the impression that manufacturing meant repetitive line work. However, after joining, I realized this is not that kind of company. The work is diverse, and unlike routine operations, individual skills and capabilities are highly valued.

Message to Job Seekers

There is a process called tensioning, where the blade body is adjusted by striking it with a hammer. It may sound like a highly specialized craft, but once you try it, it’s not as difficult as it seems. This is a workplace where you can take on challenges and develop into what could be called a true “craftsperson.” You don’t need prior experience or even a strong initial interest in cutting tools—please feel confident in applying.
